Love and Compassion

Can the mind effect the body? In short Yes!

In-fact simply by being loving and compassionate to both ourselves and others (including pets) we can feel measurable health benefits.

The release of Oxytocin helps widen our blood vessels ensuring they are strong and toned, keeping our blood pressure low and stimulating our Vagus Nerve. It’s cardio protective and can also reduce inflammation in the body. That’s why studies have shown that, along with being more active, you are 4 times more likely to survive the year proceeding a heart attack if you own a dog.

But you don’t need the loved one their to be loving and compassionate.

The following short and simple meditation can help give you similar effects. You can repeat it as often as you like with your eyes open or shut and be laid down or sat up. Just make sure you’re comfortable!

Loving Kindness Meditation

May I be filled with loving-kindness and be well,
May I be peaceful and at ease.
May I be happy and free of suffering.

• Repeat it 3 times for yourself.
• 3 times for a loved one.
• 3 times about a stranger you can think of.
• 3 times for a person that you find difficult.
• 3 times including all living things.
