Hypnotherapy for Insomnia Manchester

Do you have trouble getting to sleep, walk up too early or find that you walk up throughout the night? Around 51% of the UK population report sleep issues with around 75% of that number being women. The impact of these lost hours goes beyond tiredness and can affect your concentration, work productivity and even your mood. A lack of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep may also lead in some cases to chronic anxiety and depression.

“Insomnia affects people’s quality of life during the day, not just their sleep at night,”

Professor Colin Espie of Glasgow University

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses elements of CBT, NLP, an understanding of how the brain works and Trance to give a positive intervention. I give a free CD support at the initial consultation helping you to practice and become adept at relaxing outside of our sessions. I also explain the relevance of REM sleep and how we use this most important part of our sleep cycle to process our days events.

“Previous studies have pointed to REM sleep as the most likely candidate involved in the regulation of emotions.”

Rick Wassing

Insomnia may be a result of a stressful event such as a bereavement or difficulties with money or at work. It can also be the result of poor routine or sleeping environment. All of which we look at within the initial consultation and throughout our sessions. Focusing not on what you may feel you can’t do but on your positive sleep filled future.

If you have been diagnosed or suspect you may have one of the medical conditions above, you should consult your GP for advice, diagnosis and treatment and always inform your health professional before starting any alternative or additional therapies or treatments.

What to look for in a Hypnotherapist.

Always ensure that you do thorough research of both the hypnotherapist and his or her credentials before proceeding with treatment.

Be aware of bold claims.

Whilst the Advertising Standards Authority have now updated their codes to cover websites there are still some therapists making ‘bold’ claims and selling the kind of ‘snake oil’ remedies reminiscent of the Wild West. It should be made clear that success is not guaranteed and full client commitment, such as listening to the relaxation/support CDs, is required for the sessions to be worthwhile. No magic pills are available and this means client participation is a necessary requirement. I offer a half price initial consultation enabling a thorough explanation of all aspects of therapy.

Ensure an eclectic approach.

When choosing a hypnotherapist it’s often best to ensure that they are eclectic in their approach to therapy. As a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist (SFH) I use elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), and the latest developments within Neuroscience, along with Trance to offer a positive intervention and ensure the right environment to tackle your presenting problem.

Make sure your hypnotherapist is insured and part of a society or association.

Make sure that your hypnotherapist is part of a larger governing body. Whilst there is no current legal obligation on the part of the hypnotherapist there are various voluntary organisations that both ensure quality and give the therapist a good support structure. Insurance should also be current and specific to therapy work. I was trained by the renowned Clifton Practice where I gained my Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH), I am currently a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapists (AfSFH) – This ensures that I adhere to their ‘code of conduct’ and attend regular supervision and continuing professional development. I am also fully insured by ‘Holistic Insurance’ and have a current and full DBS Certificate for working with children and vulnerable adults.
